Introduction:
Fontanafredda Gavi di Gavi is a refined expression of Italy’s esteemed Gavi region, crafted by Fontanafredda, a winery with a rich history dating back to 1858. Known for its sustainability efforts and organic practices, Fontanafredda creates wines that capture the depth and diversity of the Langhe and surrounding regions. This wine exemplifies the winery’s commitment to quality, offering a crisp and elegant profile that is perfect for a variety of occasions.
Tasting Notes:
The wine offers an expressive nose with a bouquet of floral notes, along with aromas of lemon, apples, and a subtle hint of vanilla. On the palate, it is dry, full-bodied, and well-balanced, with a refreshing, crisp finish that brings elegance to the wine.
Winemaking & Aging:
- Fermentation: The grapes are softly pressed, and the clear must undergoes fermentation at a low temperature of 64°F.
- Aging: 85% of the wine is fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness, while the remaining portion is fermented in barriques. It is aged for 2-3 months in stainless steel before being cold stabilized and bottled.
Terroir & Vineyards:
Grapes are sourced from sandy-soiled vineyards with a high content of arenaceous marl, located at altitudes of 200-300 meters above sea level. The vineyards are planted with 4,400 vines per hectare, and their south-east and south-west-facing slopes benefit from excellent sun exposure, ideal for growing the Cortese grape variety.
Food Pairing:
Fontanafredda Gavi di Gavi is perfect as an aperitif and pairs wonderfully with hors d’oeuvres, shellfish, and light chicken dishes.
